At the launch of the VX series the Ventora model was dropped from the line up as it’s ageing 6-cylinder engine was deemed to be unsuitable for the economy and performace requirements of the time. Instead a high-end version of the VX (using the 4-cylinder 2300 engine) was launched as the flagship model.

Exterior embellishments included a deep front airdam with built-in foglamps, twin headlamps, vinyl roof, additional brightwork, a unique radiator grille and 14-inch wheels. Building on the already improved VX interior the GLS also featured comprehensive instrumentation in a wood-effect dash, soft-feel steering wheel, improved door trim panels, carpeted rear parcel shelf and boot, woolcloth headlining, tinted glass, additional sound proofing and a push-button radio with twin speakers.
